New Pawleys Island restaurant opened by SC native and will serve seafood, coastal classics
A Georgetown native who has worked in restaurants across the East Coast has opened his own seafood spot in Pawleys Island.
Pawleys Fish Camp is one of the newest restaurants to open in the area. Located in the previous Tuscany Bistro, 10744 Ocean Highway, this eatery is serving low-country classics with a twist, chef and owner Brandon Wallace said.
The menu is filled with seafood classics like shrimp and grits, fried catfish and a crab leg boil, as well as low country twists like fried deviled eggs and catfish and collards. Prices range from $13 to $36.
The building has a full bar and an outdoor patio where Wallace said he’ll have live music later in the year.
Pawleys Fish House is open 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 4 to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. In the future, Wallace said he hopes to open expanded hours to include lunch and a weekend brunch.
Wallace is a Georgetown High School graduate who attended the culinary program at Johnson and Wales University. After graduating, he worked at restaurants in Pawleys Island before moving to New York City. He stayed in New England for a few years with a stint in Connecticut.
After growing tired of the cold, he moved to Columbia and became the executive chef at a private country club. He eventually made it back to the Hammock Coast where he got the opportunity to open his own place with good friend Alfonzo Allen.
“I started out working here many years ago. To be back now is full circle,” Wallace said.
