A teenager died after he jumped out of a moving vehicle while fighting with his parents Saturday night in North Myrtle Beach.

Braden Hinson, 18, died from traumatic injuries around 11:05 p.m. on Jan. 11, according to an email from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

His parents picked him up from Duck Dive Bar, 406 Sea Mountain Highway, between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m., according to the North Myrtle Beach Police report. They then got in a “heated argument” that started because Braden was upset that his father and stepmom were late picking him up and didn’t get an Uber, the report said.

Braden threatened to jump out of the car, and when the family was driving along Oak Marsh Lane, he did so. His stepmom told police she was driving around 15 mph, according to the report. Hinson was in the front passenger seat and his father, Gregory Hinson, was in the backseat.

When police arrived, they found Gregory Hinson hugging Braden while yelling loudly, the report said. When police tried to speak to him, they found he was allegedly “grossly intoxicated,” the repot said. The father made it difficult for police to work so they arrested him for public disorderly misconduct, the report said.

Braden was alive when police arrived, the report said. EMS brought him to the hospital where he later died.

Gregory Hinson was released on a $257.50 bail the next morning.
