The first board game cafe in Myrtle Beach, SC is opening soon. Here’s when and where
The first board game cafe in the area is coming soon to Myrtle Beach. The Space at Kaleidoscope is set to open on Feb. 8, but those interested can learn more about the cafe at a Jan. 18 meet and greet.
“We’ll have a couple hundred board games, we’ll offer soft drinks and snacks, we’ll have a variety of tables and just a cozy chill space where people can come,” said owner Deborah Lopes. “My whole thing is [people] are kind of unplugging from their phone and reconnecting with human interaction and people.”
The Space will be located at 519 Broadway St. in downtown Myrtle Beach, in the unit currently occupied by local gallery the Kaleidoscope Artisan Collective. Although the gallery is moving to a bigger space down the street, Lopes says some artwork will still be displayed and available for purchase when The Space opens.
The cafe will offer two pricing models, a fixed $10 charge for a one-time visit and a tiered membership model. Single visits entitle guests to 2 hours of unlimited game play with the option to stay longer if there isn’t a wait list.
Board game enthusiasts who want to visit more frequently can become members for unlimited 2-hour increments of game play. Memberships cost $15, $20 or $25, and the tiers come with different perks like free snacks, game rentals and the option to bring a friend for free.
Members who sign up early can save. From Jan. 18 until the grand opening on Feb. 8, Lopes said she’s offering a $5 membership discount, so members can join for as little as $10.
While the cafe won’t be set up for the Jan. 18 event, visitors can come by to meet Lopes and check out The Space.
In addition to a cozy place to get your game on, The Space will offer community events like trivia nights, open mic nights and student art nights, Lopes said. For visitors interested in hosting events at the cafe, Lopes also plans to rent The Space out as a private event venue.
