Ask where you can find the best chicken bog in any other state and you’ll probably get a blank stare.

It’s clearly a South Carolina thing.

The one-pot dish of chicken, sausage and rice is most popular in Horry County, where it has been a staple for at least a century.

It’s so popular that the city of Loris has a “Bog Off” every fall that honors the dish and draws thousands from the region to sample it.

And of course, there’s quite a bit of debate about how you should make the food item. The dish itself is moist, or boggy. It’s believed its name comes from the low-lying wetlands where the meal originated.

If you’re a newcomer to the Myrtle Beach area and haven’t tried the Lowcountry dish, you need to put it on your “things to do” bucket list.

Here’s where you can find some of the best chicken bog at restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area according to Yelp.
