Improve your health for cheap in 2025. Work out for free at these 5 spots around Myrtle Beach
The new year is almost here and for many Americans Jan. 1 represents the opportunity to turn a new leaf.
A Pew Research Center survey found that 30% of American adults made at least one resolution in January 2024. For those who made resolutions, nearly 80% said their resolutions focused on health, diet or exercise.
With so many new year fitness ambitions, many gyms and exercise programs offer January promotions and discounts. But the Myrtle Beach area also has plenty of places to practice cardio, strength and endurance training completely free.
Whether you’re trying to improve your health, get in better shape or train for an event, there are free places to exercise around the Grand Strand for every resolution.
Here are five to check out:
The Market Common
The Market Common in south Myrtle Beach features a 3-mile trail system around Grand Park at 1119 Farrow Parkway and the Grand Park Athletic Complex at 1011 Crabtree Lane. In addition to hitting the trail on foot or bike, visitors can practice strength or cardio training at exercise equipment stations around the trails or check out the fields, playgrounds and parks the trails circles.
Horry County Bike and Run Park
Better known to locals as The Hulk, this 7-mile track welcomes walkers, runners and bikers alike. The Horry County Bike and Run Park is located at 150 Frontage Road B-2 in Myrtle Beach and offers alternating terrain of wood and dirt. Although the trail is closed for 24 hours after rain events, the path is sometimes muddy which enhances the difficulty of the trail’s steeper stretches.
Cabana Fitness Trail
This paved trail offers 11 exercise equipment stations, including step-ups, chin-ups and horizontal traverses, with stunning ocean views. The Cabana Fitness Trail runs half a mile from the Gardens by the Sea park at 5506 N. Ocean Blvd. in Myrtle Beach to Roberta S. McMillian Memorial Park at 5901 N. Ocean Blvd.
McLean Park
This 10-acre park at 93 Oak Drive in North Myrtle Beach offers a half-mile paved fitness trail where you can exercise with a backdrop of a scenic lake. In addition to the exercise path, McLean Park offers lit tennis courts, playgrounds, a youth tennis field and a meditation garden, where you can work on your mental health as well.
Memorial Park
Located next to the Horry County Memorial Library in Surfside, Memorial Park at Surfside Drive and North Willow Drive is Surfside Beach’s newest park. The park is home to six multi-use exercise equipment stations, lit sidewalks and sits next to Fuller Park, tennis courts, a playground and a dog park.
