Broadway at the Beach demolished two of its restaurants. What will replace them?
Two closed restaurants at Broadway at the Beach are gone, demolished and reduced to rubble.
The former locations of Key West Grill and Johnny Rockets were removed before Christmas.
Allen’s Demolition, based in Galivants Ferry, announced the work on its social media pages after work began on the project. Danny Allen owns Allen’s Demolition and told The Sun News his firm got called to do the work sometime in October 2024. He added that the remaining debris will be gone by the end of the week.
“The buildings are down. We’re just cleaning the debris stuff,” Allen said. “I don’t really know what B&C’s (Burroughs & Chapin’s) got planned to put back here.”
Key West Grill closed in January 2020 and has sat empty for nearly four years. The demolition could make way for a new distillery at Broadway at the Beach.
Optima Engineering posted a design narrative for the project online Sept. 18, 2024. The plan called for a three-story building featuring a distillery, outdoor bar and outdoor space. Another design firm, Woods Engineering Creative Solutions, also published an online proposal for the new facility on Sept. 18, 2024. Woods’ plan called for the new distillery to be two buildings, differing from Optima’s plan.
Both plans refer to the distillery project as a Yee-Haw Brewery and Ole Smoky Distillery. However, it’s unknown if Broadway at the Beach’s parent company, Burroughs & Chapin, uses either plan for the final project.
Yee-Haw Brewery operates locations throughout Tennessee and in Greenville, South Carolina. “Yee-Haw Brewing Co. has exciting plans for the future, but doesn’t have any details to share at this time,” a spokesperson told The Sun News via email. “Yee-Haw is always brewing up something fun for our customers, so we look forward to what the new year and beyond has in store.”
Ole Smoky is also a Tennessee-based distillery that specializes in moonshines and whiskeys.
“Our team is solidifying the details around this project and distillery opening with the Ole Smoky team,” a spokesperson for the company wrote via email. “We should have more information by (end of the week) and will share with you as soon as received.”
Broadway at the Beach’s public relations firm, LHWH, did not return a request for comment before publication.
Broadway at the Beach already has several beer-themed restaurants such as the Carolina Ale House. The destination also opened the Kentucky Mist Distillery in 2018, which serves moonshine and other spirits.
