SC bakery to close and reopen as something new. What’s coming to this Horry County town?
A Loris bakery plans to close for the new year and reopen as a coffee shop.
Mattie Jane’s Bakery, 4109 Main St., will be closed from Dec. 25 to about the beginning of February, said owner Jay Thomas. During this time, Thomas said the space will be renovated from a bakery to a coffee shop.
Earlier this year, the bakery began selling espresso drinks which customers really enjoyed, Thomas said. Thomas wanted to expand upon that while also creating a space for people to spend time.
“In Loris, there’s nowhere to hang out and chill in,” Thomas said.
Mattie Jane’s will still continue to sell pastries but will expand its coffee selection. Thomas also wants to serve hot food.
The coffee beans are sourced from Beach Dreams Market, a coffee shop in North Myrtle Beach. The owner roasts her own beans and Thomas is excited to use fresh and locally roasted coffee beans.
Currently, all espresso drinks, such as a latte, are $6, while Americanos and drip coffees are cheaper. After making the announcement, Thomas said he’s heard locals say they’re excited for the shop to open as they’ll no longer need to head to the beach to get coffee.
“I’m not gonna lie, I make a really good coffee,” Thomas said.
