Man crashes car into Myrtle Beach area gas station after buying coffee. How bad is damage?
A vehicle ran into a Socastee area gas station early Monday morning, leaving “significant damage.”
The car hit Coastal Petro, 595 Burcale Road, leaving a massive hole. Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the emergency around 7 a.m., according to a social media post.
Two people, including one of the owners, were sent to the hospital with injuries following the crash. Owner Nick Patel said the owner and his wife were hurt in the collision.
Patel said a man came in this morning, got a coffee, left and then drove into the building. It’s unclear why the accident occurred. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
Coastal Petro is closed for the time being, Patel said. The building has no electricity and the wall, roof and interior have been damaged. Losses include merchandise, cigarette racks, a cash register as well as the side of the building.
Harry Patel, another owner, said they plan on reopening the store, which has been in business for 25 years, as soon as possible. He also said he’s grateful no one was critically injured.
“The main thing is staff are okay. Buildings and cars can be fixed,” Harry Patel said.
