Fire crews responded to a house fire in the Conway area Tuesday evening, where one person was killed.

The remains of the white mobile home are charred and burned with much of the inside gone. Yellow police tape surrounding the yard remained Wednesday morning. A black Lexus, covered in frost from last night’s low temperatures, which dropped into the low 20s, sat in the driveway.

Family members who arrived on the scene Wednesday morning said the man who died is James Bryant. This was confirmed by Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. He lived in the mobile home located at Williamson Mobile Home Estates along Highway 905.

Bryant, 61, died from injuries sustained in the fire, Willard said.

Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched to Williamson Lake Circle at 8:31 p.m. for a fire at a mobile home, according to a Facebook post.

It is unclear what caused the fire. Horry County Police and Horry County Fire are investigating.

A person answering the phone at Williamson Mobile Home Estates said they could not answer any questions, including how long Bryant has lived there.

Randy Skipper, Bryant’s neighbor, said that another neighbor across the street came to his home and let him know there was a fire at Bryant’s home.

The two men went next door where there were flames coming from the home. Skipper said he tried to get Bryant out, but the fire was too bad.

Skipper said he could hear Bryant banging on the door. He was found in the back bedroom, Skipper said.

Ken Johnson, a neighbor a few doors down, said he knew Bryant and that he was a “good fella,” adding that he would come down and see him and his wife.

Skipper said he had just spent about three hours talking to Skipper before the fire started.

Family members said Bryant has a son who stays with him on occasion, but the son was not at the home Tuesday evening.

This is a developing story.
