Rare photos of Beatles’ John Lennon to make a stop in Myrtle Beach, SC area. Here’s when
A rare John Lennon photo gallery is going to make a stop in Myrtle Beach this month.
The gallery will feature candid photographs of Lennon taken in the 1970s by May Pang — his assistant turned “lover.” Pang and Lennon dated for around 18 months, from 1973 to 1975 while Lennon and Yoko Ono were separated, said show coordinator Scott Segelbaum. The pair even shared an apartment.
During his time with Pang, Lennon had some of his most successful years as a solo artist. He released albums “Mind Games” and “Walls and Bridges” and collaborated with Elton John, David Bowie, Ringo and other famous artists.
Pang took the photos to document their life for her own use during her relationship with Lennon, Segelbaum said. She kept the images hidden for decades until she was ready to tell her story.
Pang has documented her time with Lennon through various books and a documentary titled “The Lost Weekend: A Love Story.” She’s also touring the United States and sharing the candid and intimate pictures of Lennon.
“The Lost Weekend – The Photography of May Pang” will be on display Dec. 10 and 11 at the Art and Frame Gallery, 3261 Waccamaw Blvd. It will run from noon to 7 p.m. and is free to attend. Pang will be at the gallery to share stories behind the pictures and sign photos that people buy.
