Closed Walk-On’s restaurant in Carolina Forest liquidated at auction. What to know
In 2024, the two Myrtle Beach area locations for the national restaurant chain Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux closed. Co-owned by retired NFL quarterback Drew Brees, the Grand Strand eateries in Carolina Forest and Surfside Beach shuttered without a reason given.
One of the restaurants’ inventories got liquidated at an auction, and two North Carolina locations will sell their contents soon, too. The Carolina Forest eatery along Rodeo Drive sold its inventory — including printers, stainless shelves, shrimp deveiner and other items— at an Oct. 30, 2024, auction. According to its website, the Locust, N.C.-based company Classic Auctions did the sale.
The firm is also conducting the auctions for closed Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux locations in Fayetteville and Wilmington, N.C., with sales scheduled for late November and early December, a Classic Auctions administrative assistant said in a Nov. 27, 2024, interview. The administrative assistant added the Carolina Forest building wasn’t part of the Oct. 30, 2024, auction.
According to Horry County Land Records, Whitehall MB LLC owns the 2.3-acre property, which has a $3.7 million market value.
Tony Hurr with Classic Auction declined to comment and referred The Sun News to his attorney, who also did not return a request for comment before publication.
According to Walk On’s website, the only eatery remaining in South Carolina is near Clemson University. While the Carolinas have seen four locations close in 2024, the national chain is preparing to expand. In November 2024, a press release from the eatery announced that the chain will open 20 locations throughout Georgia and Tennessee.
The announcement follows the restaurant also considering plans to experiment with smaller restaurants, the Nation’s Restaurant News reported in July 2024. At the same time, the chain had $336 million in sales in 2023 — a 12 percent jump, the publication also reported.
