A woman who received severe and permanent burns to parts of her body while in a tanning bed is suing a Conway tanning salon, claiming the business failed to maintain the equipment.

Alexa Brown filed the suit against Carolina Bronze Tan, 1913 Highway 378, after she received burns to her face, lips, ears, upper chest, neck and eyes, as well as other parts of her body.

A message left at Carolina Bronze Tan was not immediately returned.

The suit claims that on Sept. 27, 2023, Brown went to the salon for a tanning session and was assigned a room and a tanning bed. During the tanning session, the bed began to get very hot and Brown felt her skin burning, the suit said. Brown was unable to complete her session.

Following the session, her vision became blurred and her face and body became red and swollen, the suit said. She also suffered a limitation of movement and her injuries required her to seek hospitalization and a doctor’s care, as well as missed time from work, the suit said.

The suit, filed on Nov. 25, 2024, claims the business was negligent and careless in failing to keep the tanning beds safe for customers and correct any dangerous conditions.

Brown is asking for damages, including medical costs and lost wages.
