As the Myrtle Beach area quiets down for the winter season, it should be easier to snag free beach parking.

Whether you’re a snowbird, local or off-season tourist looking to save a few dollars, here’s where to find free parking across the Grand Strand.

Myrtle Beach

In the city of Myrtle Beach, there are no options for free beachfront parking except for Myrtle Beach residents, according to the city website. If someone lives within city limits, they can get a parking decal that allows parking at meters and on certain residential streets.

Parking costs between $2 and $3 per hour or $15 a day, depending on the parking spot. Myrtle Beach stopped offering free off-season parking in 2023, The Sun News previously reported.

North Myrtle Beach

Starting Nov. 1, North Myrtle Beach gets rid of its parking fees for the season. This means all lots and streets will be free for several months.

Paid parking, which is between $2 and $4 an hour between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., will start again March 1, according to the North Myrtle Beach city website.

People who live in or own property in North Myrtle Beach are able to register for free city parking every year. Registration can be done online or in person.

Surfside Beach

The town south of Myrtle Beach offers free parking in the same schedule as North Myrtle Beach. From Nov. 1 through Feb. 28, parking fees will be waived, according to the Surfside Beach website.

During the on-season, parking ranges from $2 to $4 an hour or $10 to $15 per day depending on the lot. Residents can also get free parking.

Horry County

There are several county-owned lots that provide free parking year-round, according to the Horry County website. There is one beach access parking lot at Nash Street and two in Garden City that are free 365 days a year.

The Nash Street lot is located near Myrtle Beach State Park, allowing people to walk to the park for free.

Other exceptions for free parking

Those with a handicap placard or Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans or Medal of Honor license tags are able to park for free at any municipal parking spot in South Carolina.
