A Myrtle Beach Police officer shot a dog after the animal charged at police along North Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach Police said in a Facebook post.

Police responded to a disturbance in the 600 block of North Ocean Boulevard on Sunday at 10:14 p.m., according to the social media post. While investigating, they found an individual with a dog that became aggressive toward officers.

The dog charged at police and an officer used “less than lethal countermeasures” to stop the animal, which did not work. The officer then shot the dog.

One officer was taken to the hospital with injuries and has been released. The dog was taken to an emergency animal hospital and should recover from its injuries.
