Vacationer’s foot fractured in Myrtle Beach hotel room, lawsuit says. What happened?

A hotel along Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach is being sued for negligence after an oven door fell and fractured a woman’s foot.

Patricia Glenn, of North Carolina, filed a suit against Monterey Bay Suites Resort Homeowners Associations, 6804 North Ocean Blvd., and Brittain Resorts and Hotels on Oct. 17.

Monterey Bay Suites Resort did not respond to a request to comment.

Glenn said she rented a room at the hotel on Dec. 30, 2023. After entering, she was familiarizing herself with the room and opened the door to the oven, according to the lawsuit. The oven door fell off its hinges and onto Glenn’s left foot.

Her foot began to swell and she went to a local hospital where she was given a walking boot. She went to see a doctor in North Carolina after her trip who said she had a crush injury and compression fracture, the court complaint states.

Glenn had to go through physical therapy for 24 weeks and likely has permanent nerve damage from the injury, the suit said.

“As a direct and proximate result of this event, Ms. Glenn sustained permanent and painful injuries to her left foot, medical expenses, lost wages, mental anguish, and loss of enjoyment of life,” the lawsuit stated.

She’s alleging the hotel had a duty to provide a safe room and staff should have known about the broken oven door. She is asking for an undefined amount of damages.
