Update: Person in deadly three-vehicle crash in Carolina Forest area named by coroner

One person is dead after a three-vehicle crash near Carolina Forest on Monday morning, according to Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Around 10:30 a.m., a Ford sedan driving north on River Oaks Drive collided with a Honda sedan driving south near World Tour Boulevard, Pye said in an email. As a result of the crash, the Ford then also hit a Volkswagen.

The driver of the Ford died, and the driver of the Volkswagen was sent to the hospital. The Honda driver was uninjured.

Michael Petrovich, 69, of Myrtle Beach, died at the scene from blunt force injuries after striking the vehicle head-on, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard in an email.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the crash and the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
