Update: SC woman charged after crash with Myrtle Beach Police officer. Car hit a business
A Myrtle Beach Police officer was involved in an accident Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the other vehicle crashing into an office building.
The accident occurred on Broadway Street, according to police spokesperson Randolph Angotti.
Angotti said the officer was taken to the hospital to be checked out. He was later released.
Angotti would not release the officer’s name.
This is the second time this year that an officer has been involved in an accident and police officials have declined to release the officer’s name.
He did not have other details on the accident, saying that South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
According to a SCHP police report, Steven Trott, an animal control officer with the department, was traveling south on Secondary 15 when the driver of other vehicle ran a stop sign and collided with the pickup truck Trott was driving.
The accident caused the second vehicle to run off the road and into a nearby business.
It doesn’t appear from the report that the driver, Ruth Vrona McDaniel, was injured. McDaniel, 50, was arrested later that evening on charges of trafficking in fentanyl. It is unclear if the charges are a result of the accident. She remains in J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $15,000 bond.
Photos on Facebook of the police vehicle show significant damage to the front of the police vehicle.
The other vehicle crashed into the side of Pixel Fixer Cellphone MacPC Repair, located at 417 Broadway St. A person answering the phone at the business said the building had some damage.
Trott has been with the Myrtle Beach Police Department as an animal control officer since September 2006.
