This SC ice cream shop listed among unique spots in the world to get a scoop. Here’s why
Unlike what it says in its name, Kirk’s Ice Cream Parlor has not been operating since 1890, but it has been serving up nostalgia in Myrtle Beach for nearly half a century.
The locally-owned ice cream parlor is a throwback to earlier times, sporting vintage decor, Tiffany-style lights and parlor chairs that might be found in an old-fashioned soda fountain. Visitors can also find old games, including some that might have appeared in long-ago arcades.
And then there’s the ice cream, which is hand-scooped from more than 40 flavors, including traditional vanilla and chocolate to more adventurous offerings.
The shop is more than ice cream, it’s an experience, and it’s because of this that it is often among the top-rated places in the Myrtle Beach area to get one or two scoops of the sweet treat.
That includes being included in the international Atlas Obscura, which provides unique places and foods worldwide.
The online magazine also named Kirk’s one of its 21 cool, hidden and unusual things to do in the Myrtle Beach area. It one of only two restaurants placed on the list.
The ice cream parlor has two locations in Myrtle Beach: the original at 2500 N. Kings Highway and the second at 6101 N. Kings Highway.
They have become perfect spots for a date night, a place to go after dinner, or to cool off on a hot South Carolina day.
The ice cream parlor is seasonal and usually closes down in November.
