For the first time this season, parents in Horry and Georgetown County can vote for who had the best performance during Week 0 of the high school football season.

Voting ends at midnight Thursday and will be announced Friday, Aug. 30, 2024. Voters can find out who won by visiting The Sun News’ website. The announcement will also get posted on Ben Morse’s X, formerly known as Twitter account.

This poll is not scientific but an opportunity to highlight the talented athletes across the Grand Strand.

Here are the Myrtle Beach area Player of the Week nominees

Austin Tanyika, defensive end and fullback, Aynor High School: On the defensive side of the ball, Tanyika finished the game with an interception that helped set up a Blue Jacket touchdown and three tackles for loss. On offense, Tanyika finished 92 yards rushing and two touchdowns, which included a 60-yard run for a score. Tanyika’s 25-yard reception on 4th and 11 also helped Aynor beat Aiken High School 37-13 Aug. 23, 2024.

Landon Cloninger, quarterback, North Myrtle Beach High School: Cloninger finished the game 14/23, passing for 204 yards and two rushing touchdowns, North Myrtle’s only scores on the evening. North Myrtle Beach lost to Goose Creek High School 41-14 Aug. 24, 2024.

Bryce Holloway, running back, Waccamaw High School: Holloway garnered 101 yards on the ground on 16 carriers during Waccamaw’s 34-0 demolition of Carvers Bay High School. Aug. 24, 2024.
