The body of a teenager who went missing in the water on Saturday was recovered Sunday, Aug. 25 near 18th Avenue South in Myrtle Beach.

15-year-old Edwin Gonzalez-Rosendo was visiting from Shannon, North Carolina. According to a Facebook post shared by the city of Myrtle Beach, he was with another swimmer when they began to drown Saturday near 12th Avenue South.

The other swimmer was rescued, but search efforts for Gonzalez-Rosendo continued until his body was recovered around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, ending the joint operation involving police, fire, lifeguards and the Coast Guard.

Further details about the boy’s death aren’t known at this time, but a statement from a representative for the Horry County Coroner’s Officer said the Myrtle Beach Police Department is investigating.
