Georgetown native Melissa Jefferson medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics
A Georgetown native and former CCU track athlete will forever be able to call themselves an Olympic medalist.
Melissa Jefferson won the bronze medal in the women’s 100-meter race at the Paris Olympics after finishing third in the final event Saturday, Aug. 3. Jefferson, who finished with a 10.92 second time in the final run, booked her ticket to the final with a first place finish in the semifinal earlier that Saturday.
The former Carvers Bay High School alum and homecoming queen also had a notable collegiate career at Coastal Carolina before leaving the program following the 2021-22 season. Jefferson previously won an NCAA national championship in the 60-meter dash in 2022.
Fellow American Sha’Carri Richardson also medaled in the women’s 100-meter race, finishing with the silver medal.
