Loris High student killed by suspected drunk driver while heading home from band camp
A Loris High School student died after being hit by a suspected drunk driver as he was driving home from band camp along S.C. 9 outside Loris, authorities said.
Sean Herd, 17, of Loris died on the scene at 11 p.m. Aug. 2 from blunt force trauma, according to Horry County Coroner Tamara Willard. The Loris High School student left band camp and was driving south along S.C. 9 in a Volkswagen Jetta when he was struck head-on by a Jeep Wrangler.
Seth Rosen, of Longs, was driving the Jeep, state Trooper William Bennett confirmed in a text message.
Rosen, 36, was arrested Aug. 3 on a charge of felony driving under the influence resulting in death. He is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.
The crash happened near Ferrell Road, around three miles south of Loris. Rosen was sent to the Grand Strand Medical Center with injuries, Bennett said.
Horry County Fire Rescue responded to this accident at 10:51 p.m. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating with help from Horry County Police and Loris Police.
