Rescue crews are searching for a missing swimmer in Pawleys Island.

According to a Facebook post by the Georgetown County Emergency Management, Midway Fire Rescue, Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Coast Guard are conducting a search Friday evening for the swimmer in the area of South Dunes Drive.

Rescue crews received the call about a male teen missing in the surf at 6:10 p.m., according to Brandon Ellis, director of Georgetown County Emergency Management. Ellis said crews have been actively searching for the teen.

However, rescue crews have been pulled out of the water because it is getting dark, Ellis said. They plan to resume the search Saturday morning.

Ellis said that patrols will continue Friday evening up and down the beach. He was unsure if the teen was vacationing.

Rescue crews were searching for a male teenager with dark blue shorts, according to Vincent Moreno, public affairs specialist with the U.S. Coast Guard. Moreno had few details, including the age of the teen.

Witnesses reported seeing two teens struggling in the water. One made it safely to shore.

Crews are searching the Pawleys Island and North Litchfield Beach area, according to officials.
