Update: Pedestrian who died after being struck by 2 vehicles in Myrtle Beach area named
A pedestrian has died after being struck by two vehicles while trying to cross the highway near Surfside Beach.
One of the vehicles left the scene.
The accident occurred at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 17 Bypass near Wood Thrush Drive, according to Cpl. David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Zebulon Lester, 34, of Murrells Inlet, was killed as he was walking in the northbound lane of U.S. 17, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard in a press release.
SCHP is asking for help in identifying the second vehicle that left the scene. They are asking if anyone has information to call 843-661-4705 or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
A 2002 Lexus was traveling northbound on U.S. 17 when it hit the pedestrian who was trying to cross the road. Another vehicle also hit the pedestrian but then left the scene, according to Jones. The pedestrian died on the scene.
