Vacationers staying at a Myrtle Beach area campground were evacuated and an armored police vehicle was brought in after a weapons incident turned into a barricaded person.

Horry County Police posted on Facebook July 7 about an incident at Ocean Lakes Family Campground, 6001 S. Kings Highway. Around 7:30 p.m., police said they were responding to a “possible weapons incident” and had evacuated those nearby. Around 8:30 p.m., Horry County Police said a subject had barricaded themselves inside a home.

Diana Shaw, of Myrtle Beach, was arrested for five counts of pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, according to Horry County arrest warrants. She was sent to the hospital and was released on bond, said Horry County spokesperson Mikayla Moskov.

Four victims told police that the woman thought they had stolen their dog and pointed her gun at them while outside, according to the police report. The woman then went inside but continued to point her gun at the fifth victim. The report also says the woman was intoxicated.

Around that time, Ocean Lakes Family Campground security staff said the woman potentially fired around three rounds, the police report said. Once police arrived, they set up a perimeter and the woman went back into her house.

Shortly after, SWAT members, drone team, negotiations, the bomb squad and the dog team were called on site. An armored vehicle was also used during the incident.

Moskov said that the use of the department’s armored personnel carrier “is a vital resource that enables us to safely get personnel closer to the incident and the individual/subject in question.”

Pictures and videos from the scene show an officer stationed behind a car with a gun and a large police presence. In a Facebook live video, police officers can be heard asking the person to come out over a loudspeaker or bullhorn.

Later in the video, police walk Shaw wearing handcuffs away from the scene, sit her down and give her water. After a few minutes, she was put into a police truck.

Multiple people posted online about tear gas being used but that has not been confirmed by Horry County Police. People also posted about not being able to get into the campgrounds at certain locations.

Around 9:40 p.m. police said they brought the person into custody and an investigation is ongoing. Horry County has not released the name of the person brought into custody.
