Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce/Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO Karen Riordan resigned effective June 28, 2024, according to a press release from the chamber.

The release said Riordan is leaving to pursue new opportunities and spend more time with her family.

“It has been a great honor to serve as president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber and CVB. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together and grateful for the support of our members, staff, board and community,” Riordan said in the press release. “While I look forward to new challenges ahead, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber and CVB will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Her tenure at the chamber and CVB began in 2018, which coincided with several notable events starting along the Grand Strand.

Visit Myrtle Beach sponsored the Myrtle Beach Bowl NCAA Division I football game and the Myrtle Beach area’s first-ever PGA Tour tournament, the Myrtle Beach Classic. In a May 2024 interview, Riordan said it was important for the chamber to get involved in sponsoring such events.

“Here in Myrtle Beach, we don’t have huge industry, the way Charleston and Hilton Head are able to have a major sponsor like Boeing,” Riordan said in May 2024. “We felt Visit Myrtle Beach really needed to be that, since it was our idea anyway, we put ourselves on the hook.”

The Chamber’s board of directors will soon begin the search for a new president and CEO. Interim leadership plans will be announced in the coming days to ensure a smooth transition, the release said.
