FedEx is laying off employees at three company locations in South Carolina, including Florence and Myrtle Beach. The locations will close later this year, the company has said.

The layoffs were first reported by the layoff database WARN Tracker.

In a statement to The Sun News, David Westerlick with FedEx media relations said the layoff decision was made months in advance.

“We recently informed employees that FedEx facilities in Myrtle Beach, Florence, and Columbia will close later this year and certain team members will be offered opportunities at other nearby FedEx locations.Decisions of this nature are never made lightly, and are the result of much thought and consideration for the needs of our business,” Westerlick wrote in a statement. “Affected team members were notified several months before any changes take place, and are receiving assistance with finding other employment opportunities within the company, including additional support options like relocation assistance or severance where applicable.”

According to WARN Tracker, 60 to 150 employees were reported to have been laid off at the Florence and Myrtle Beach locations. Employees at both the Florence and Myrtle Beach locations were notified of the layoff June 7, 2024, according to WARN Tracker.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, known as The WARN Act, gives employees advanced notice of layoffs.
