Teen dies after trying to cross busy Myrtle Beach, SC, area highway. Coroner releases name
A 19-year-old died after being hit by a vehicle while trying to cross U.S. 501 on his bicycle, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
The accident happened near Coastal Carolina University.
Silvestre Cortes was involved in the accident that occurred about 11:30 p.m. Sunday at U.S. 501 and University Boulevard. He died at the scene of blunt force trauma, Willard said in an email.
The Conway Police Department is investigating the accident.
