Five Myrtle Beach area beaches were named the best in South Carolina by USA Today.

North Myrtle Beach was named No. 2 by the national publication, which determined the list by editors’ picks and readers’ votes. The list was released Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

The coastal city was described as having a family-friendly atmosphere and got accolades for its many public parking locations, convenient public beach access and the city’s commitment to maintaining a clean and safe beach.

It was beat out by neighboring Pawleys Island, which secured the No. 1 spot. This Georgetown County beach, which is less than an hour from Myrtle Beach, is a small town that is located on the Hammock Coast.

Other Horry County beaches that made the list are Cherry Grove beach (No. 6), also in North Myrtle Beach; Surfside Beach (No. 7); and Myrtle Beach (No. 8). Huntington Beach State Park (No. 5) in Murrells Inlet and Litchfield Beach (No. 4), both in Georgetown County, also were among the Top 10.
