An 83-year-old man is dead after a car crash in the Myrtle Beach, SC area. What we know

A car crash near the Garden City area has left an 83-year-old man dead and his passenger injured.

Michael Hanchulak, of Murrells Inlet, was driving his 2000 Jeep Wrangler on Thursday west along Wood Thrush Avenue around 3 p.m., according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Patty Bellamy. While he crossed U.S. 17, a Chevrolet truck was driving north along U.S. 17 and the two vehicles collided, said South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Lena Butler.

Hanchulak and his passenger were sent to the hospital where the Murrells Inlet man where later passed. The driver of the truck was not hurt.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
