Columbia

Human skeletal remains have been found near a highway in between Conway and Aynor, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

The person has not yet been identified, a release said.

The remains were found on Monday near the intersection of S.C. 22 and S.C. 319. A criminal investigation is underway due to the fact that the remains were found in an “unusual or remote location,” the release said.

DNA will be collected and the body will be analyzed by a forensic anthropologist and odontologist.

More information will be released as it’s available, Willard said.
