N.C. VFW holds concert series

Submitted photo

VFW Calabash Post #7288 members were pleased to see hundreds of area residents have a great time and help the VFW National Home all in one evening. The event was the Calabash Concert Series, a program to entertain the people of the area while helping worthy causes.

Among the worthiest is the VFW National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, Mich. Each state has a home there that is open to families of active-duty military and veterans. The homes are designed to help those veterans and families find stability during and after deployment.

While the Fat Jack Band entertained on July 16, Post volunteers fanned out into the large audience to conduct a 50-50 fundraiser from which the Post would get half to send to the National Home. Pictured doing some of the fundraising are Wayne and Jeanie Weszka. At the end of the evening, $1,250 had been raised, half of which will be sent to the National Home to benefit the N.C. facility there.
