The week ahead for the Myrtle Beach area: What you need to know
District 106 election
Residents in S.C. House District 106 – which includes Surfside Beach, Garden City and Burgess – hit the polls Tuesday to select a new state representative.
Four Republican candidates are vying for the House seat formerly held by Rep. Nelson Hardwick, who resigned in May.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. To find out where to vote, log on to http://bit.ly/1gXIRnA.
A special general election will be held Sept. 15.
Surfside council meets Monday
The Surfside Beach Town Council will meet 6:30 p.m. Monday instead of Tuesday, as it is regularly scheduled, due to the special election for House District 106.
The meeting will be held at Town Hall, 115 U.S. Highway 17 N., in Surfside Beach.
Conway mural dedication
Conway Downtown Alive will hold a dedication ceremony 7 p.m. Tuesday to celebrate the restoration of the mural painted at Main Street and Third Avenue.

Guy Daniels Surfoff
The 16th annual Guy Daniels Memorial Surfoff will take place Saturday and Sunday to benefit the Guy Daniels Memorial Foundation.
The contest is held in memory of Daniels, a lifelong Surfside Beach resident who died in 1999 when he was 19.
