Free CPR classes to be taught by MIGCFR and held at Elks’ Lodge

Life-saving techniques can be learned when Murrells Inlet-Garden City Beach Fire Rescue firefighters hold free CPR courses next week, according to a press release.

The Murrells Inlet Elks’ Lodge 2797 is sponsoring the two-hour American Heart Association Heart Saver courses taught by MIGCFR firefighters, and offered Monday through Wednesday at the Elks’ Lodge at 3816 U.S. 17 Business in Murrells Inlet.

Students’ abilities will be assessed after the course, but no test will be required. Each participant will receive a CPR completion card, which can be mailed or picked up at the Elks’ Lodge or Murrells Inlet-Garden City Beach fire station about a week after course completion, according to the release.

The free classes will each hold a maximum of 20 people and the schedule is as follows: Monday, July 27 from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday July 28 from 2 to 4 p.m., and Wednesday, July 29 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Those interested must register by providing their name and other information to Sandy Foster at inletsail2797@sc.twcbc.com , or by calling Bill Yerkey, grant administrator, at 446-9084. There is also a sign up sheet at the Elks’ Lodge 2797.

While the classes are free, anyone not canceling within 24 hours of not being able to attend will be assessed a $20 fee, which would go to the fire department.
