A Myrtle Beach cemetery is closed Wednesday after an early morning fire at the location.

Myrtle Beach Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery, 2408 S. Kings Highway, according to Capt. Jon Evans.

The city of Myrtle Beach posted on Facebook Wednesday that the cemetery would be closed to visitors Wednesday and would reopen Thursday.

Evans said by text that a building at the cemetery caught fire and crews worked to extinguish it.

It is unclear how the fire started and is under investigation, he said. No one was injured.

The city-owned cemetery is 20 acres and has some 7,000 graves, the oldest of which dates to 1879.
