Motorcyclist died Thursday after crashing last week
A motorcyclist died Thursday night as a result of injuries suffered in a car crash that happened on July 15, according to Darris Fowler, deputy coroner with Horry County.
Charles Tripp, 39, whose hometown was not provided, succumbed to head injuries at 10:06 p.m. at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Fowler said.
The crash that later resulted in Tripp’s death occurred July 15 at Waccamaw Pine Drive and Hospitality Lane, near U.S. 501, when Tripp’s motorcycle crashed with a vehicle, authorities said.
Tripp was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and died from mass head trauma, Fowler said.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the deadly crash.
Tripp’s death is the 38th traffic fatality so far this year in Horry County, including pedestrians being struck. His is the 11th motorcycle-related death so far this year in Horry County and the second in a week.
Michael Jackson, 34, of Longs, died July 18 after he failed to stop for a red light while riding his motorcycle near 46th Avenue North in North Myrtle Beach and struck the side of a vehicle that was turning.
