Is Trader Joe’s coming to the Myrtle Beach area?

Residents have wanted a location for some time, and recent speculation on Facebook suggests one might be coming to the Grand Strand.

On Dec. 6, 2023, one Facebook user alleged that Trader Joe’s was coming to the Myrtle Beach, S.C. area. Other Facebook users expressed excitement about the news, but is it true?

No, says Trade Joe’s.

“We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year,” Trader Joe’s Public Relations Manager Nakia Rohde wrote in an email. “At this time, we do not have a location confirmed in Myrtle Beach.”

Trader Joe’s could not be reached for comment to clarify its current standing before publication. The grocery store chain announces when new stores open on its website, and there is no Myrtle Beach press release.

While South Carolina only has three Trader Joe’s, Myrtle Beach residents have craved a location for years. Some travel in groups to Wilmington, N.C., to get their groceries, and in Aug. 2023, Sun News readers voted Trader Joe’s as the number one store they wanted to open in Myrtle Beach above other options such as Cheesecake Factory and Wegmans.

Readers also said they want healthier food choices along the Grand Strand that are healthy and affordable.
