An internationally popular event will be returning to Myrtle Beach next year.

The City of Myrtle Beach will host the 2024 World’s Strongest Man contest. The event would begin May 1, 2024, and conclude May 5, according to an agenda from the city’s Special Event Committee.

The Committee passed a motion Wednesday to approve the competition, pending the event organizers addressing the hospitality tax, business license renewal and other issues.

“It’s just good for coverage,” City of Myrtle Beach Special Events Supervisor Troy Marron said. “It spotlights Myrtle Beach.”

This would not be the first time World Strongest Man has graced the Grand Strand. Myrtle Beach hosted the strongman event in April 2023, which was free and open to the public. Canadian competitor Mitchell Hooper, who has a large social media following, won the 2023 contest.

The contest pushes competitors’ strength to the limit by having them lift massive amounts of weight in various competitions, including kettlebell tossing, which was an event at the 2023 World’s Strongest Man.
