The votes are in!
The Myrtle Beach-area restaurant that Sun News readers miss the most is K&W Cafeteria.
This Southern chain received 330 votes in our unofficial poll, almost half of the total. The four Myrtle Beach-area locations — in Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet and North Myrtle Beach — gradually closed starting in 2017.
K&W Cafeteria beat out closed but well-loved restaurants J. Edwards, Santa Fe Station and Black Thai.
Readers nominated 55 of their favorite long-gone eateries and The Sun News put the four most nominated to a week-long online poll.
K&W Cafeteria’s low prices and kind staff stood out to our readers. One reader still remembered the way an employee called out “Waffles!” and another nominator mentioned a woman who always yelled, “I need a short stack.”
Roast beef, chicken pan pie and egg custard were some of our readers’ favorite dishes. 11 K&W Cafeterias are still open in North Carolina and Virginia, with one in Wilmington.
