14-year-old pedestrian hit by vehicle on Halloween night in Little River, SC
A 14-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Halloween night in Little River.
The accident happened about 7:13 p.m. on Highway 90 and Barnacle Lane, according to a Facebook post from Horry County Fire Rescue. The post said that the pedestrian suffered critical injuries.
It is unclear if the pedestrian was trick-or-treating when the accident occurred, according to Lance Cpl. Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. However, it appears that the teenager may have been crossing the roadway at the time, Butler said.
The pedestrian was transported to the hospital, but Butler did not have an update on the person’s injuries.
The pedestrian, who was in the roadway, was struck by a 1998 Ford Sedan, Butler said. The driver did not receive any injuries.
Butler said SCHP has posted many social media posts in reference to pedestrian safety and what motorists could do to avoid pedestrians. Butler said the number of pedestrian fatalities have increased this year over last year and the SCHP has upped its enforcement and public education to try to avoid such accidents.
