Planning an evening trick-or-treat on Halloween? Don’t be scared, but it’ll be chilly
All good things come to an end.
And for Horry County residents who have been taking advantage of unseasonably warm late fall temperatures, there’s a cold reality coming.
Starting Monday night, the mercury will drop into the mid-60s and stay that way for most of the week. The expected high Monday is 77 degrees, but after that it’ll begin feeling much more autumnal.
On Halloween, temperatures are expected to peak at 70 during the day, then fall into the 50s, so sundown trick-or-treaters may need an extra layer.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the 40s Thursday and Friday mornings.
The National Weather Service’s Wilmington office on Oct. 28 also issued a rip current advisory as conditions deteriorate.
“Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water,” the agency warned in its statement. “ Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.”
