Rolling into the Myrtle Beach area for the close of Bike Week? Bring a jacket.
If you’re planning to spend the closing days of Myrtle Beach Fall Bike Week outside, bring a jacket — leather or not.
Some of the chilliest conditions of the season will arrive for the rally’s tail end, pushing temperatures into the low 50s through Monday.
“Warm and humid conditions could help produce a few showers near the coast today into Saturday, but big changes are on the way,” the National Weather Service’s Wilmington office said in its Oct. 6 weekend outlook. “A cold front will arrive Saturday afternoon, followed by dry weather and the chilliest air of the season Sunday into Monday.
It’ll be coldest in Conway and Georgetown, with overnight lows in the high 40s on Oct. 8 and Oct. 9, the National Weather Service says.
For people hoping to sneak in some early autumn ocean swimming, the agency is warning of elevated rip current risks through Saturday.
Essentially underwater treadmills, rip currents don’t pull people under water but instead force them farther from the shore.
It can be hard to tell if you’re caught in one, but if while attempting to swim back toward the shore no progress is being made, you could be caught in one.
Try swimming sideways to escape the flow. If you can’t escape, float or tread water and wave or yell for help.
