Cooler air, closed seasonal attractions, pumpkins outside of stores – fall has come to the Myrtle Beach area. With less than a month until Halloween, many South Carolina residents are planning their costumes and looking for events where they can get dressed up.

Whether you are looking for frights or a kid-friendly experience, you have many options to get in the Halloween spirit. Fall events will be held from North Myrtle Beach to Conway and Surfside Beach to Murrells Inlet.

In addition to these five events, check out other local festivals or explore a haunted place in the Myrtle Beach area.

OktoberFest at Barefoot Landing

Date: Oct. 7, noon to 8 p.m.

Location: Barefoot Landing, 4898 Highway 17 S., North Myrtle Beach

Try fall-themed food and beverages at Barefoot Landing restaurants at this year’s OktoberFest. Check out Landshark’s stage for a German costume contest for dogs and live music. For discounts at restaurants and shops, you can buy an optional $10 wristband – proceeds benefit the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach.

Harvest Home Weekend at Brookgreen Gardens

Dates: Oct. 7 and Sunday, Oct. 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Brookgreen Gardens, 1931 Brookgreen Drive, Murrells Inlet

Tickets: Included with Brookgreen Gardens admission – $22 for adults, $12 for kids 3-12, free for those 3 and under

Decorate a pumpkin or construct a scarecrow in the fall greenery at Brookgreen Gardens. The family-friendly event will also feature a hay maze and live music.

Forest of Fear in Conway

Dates: Oct. 19-21 and Oct. 26-28 from 6-9 p.m.

Location: Conway Sports and Fitness Center, 1515 Mill Pond Rd., Conway

Tickets: $20, buy online

Get scared in the woods at the Forest of Fear haunted trail in Conway. The second year of the event will include more actors scaring visitors, said Mykal Moody, assistant program coordinator with the City of Conway. Check out all of the City of Conway’s Halloween-themed events on their website.

Grand Strand Witches Night

Dates: Oct. 21, starting at 5 p.m. Raffle at 7 p.m.

Location: Marsh Walk, Murrells Inlet

Each year since 2015, the Witches Night draws crowds of black hat-clad visitors to the Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk. Started by a group of bar-hopping moms, the event raises money for the nonprofit Children’s Recovery Center, assisting young survivors of sexual abuse. The benefit raffle, held at Creek Ratz, will feature a cash prize and gift cards to each Marsh Walk restaurant, said Organizer Amanda Hynes.

Surfside Beach Halloween events

Date: Oct. 28, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Intersection of Surfside Drive and Ocean Boulevard S., Surfside Beach

With a meatball cook-off, car show and Halloween golf cart parade, you’ll have a packed day of fun in Surfside Beach. The parade will begin at 3 p.m. and the route runs on Surfside Drive from Poplar Drive South to Ocean Boulevard.
