A swimmer was bitten by a shark Monday in Myrtle Beach, according to police.

One person sustained a bite and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Myrtle Beach Police Cpl. Christopher Starling.

The incident happened about 4:48 p.m. at 101 6th Ave. S, according to a police report.

The report said an officer responded to the area for an “animal bite.” A 56-year-old man was bitten in the water, the report said.

It is not known what type of shark was involved.
