SC driver dies after pickup truck crashes into tree and catches fire near Loris

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident Sept. 11 in which a vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree near Loris. The vehicle caught fire and was put out by Horry County Fire Rescue. The driver died on the scene.

The driver of a pickup truck was killed Sept. 11 after the vehicle struck a tree and caught fire.

The driver was identified as Jarrod Johnson, 36, of Loris, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office. He died on scene from both traumatic and thermal injuries, a press release from the coroner said.

The accident happened at 9:57 a.m. three miles south of Loris on Secondary Highway 97 near Hucks, according to Lance Cpl. Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver of a 2005 Ford F150 pickup truck was traveling northbound on the highway when it went off the roadway and struck the tree, a police report said.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the accident and extinguished the fire.
