Expired deli meat. Leaky roof. Myrtle Beach area restaurants with the worst inspections
From buildup inside an ice machine to a biscuit stored touching a washcloth, South Carolina health inspectors found numerous violations at Myrtle Beach-area restaurants this week.
The state releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments across Horry and Georgetown counties.
Here are the food establishments that received some of the lowest ratings this week.
Piggly Wiggly Deli and Bakery in Georgetown (Piggly Wiggly #160)
- Location: 1620 Highmarket St., Georgetown
- Grade: B, 78% for a routine inspection on Aug. 30
The inspector found a phone and keys sitting on a cutting board. Some meat in the deli cooler was expired or did not have dates. Peachtree Grocery
- Location: 7981 Highway 544, Myrtle Beach
- Grade: B, 82% for a routine inspection on Sept. 1
The inspector observed pesticide spray stored in a handwashing sink. The kitchen’s new addition lacked a handwashing sink and restaurant-grade equipment and ventilation. Plantation Pancake House
- Location: 1003 Highway 17 Business, Surfside Beach
- Grade: B, 82% for a routine inspection on Aug. 29
An inspector found a biscuit stored touching a washcloth. The ice machine had dark buildup inside and two coolers did not keep food cold enough. Bojangles in Loris (Bojangles #867)
- Location: 4207 Main St., Loris
- Grade: A, 83% for a routine inspection on Sept. 1
The solution in the sanitizer bucket was just water, an inspector observed. Grease had accumulated on the floor and the exterior of the tea containers was dirty. A required follow-up inspection has not yet been held. Read Bojangles’ full report.
