Driver killed when vehicle crashes into water Thursday. Horry County dive team responded
A driver was killed early Thursday morning when the vehicle left the roadway and overturned in water on Highway 9.
Dive team crews with Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the accident scene in Nichols, according to an Horry County Fire Rescue Facebook post.
The driver was identified as Samuel Brown, 56, of Loris, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office. He was discovered in his vehicle, the coroner said in a release.
The driver died on the scene from his injuries, according to Lance Cpl. Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The accident happened about 8:30 a.m. Lanes of traffic were blocked in the area of Highway 9 at Highway 76, according to the Facebook post.
The driver was the only person in the 2003 GMC Yukon, which was traveling on Highway 9 when it went off the side of the road and overturned, Butler said in a release.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
