Conway woman dies hours later after being ejected from vehicle early Sunday morning

A 25-year-old Conway woman died early Sunday when she was ejected from the vehicle she was driving.

Ashanti Ellerbe, of Conway, was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where she died at 2:22 p.m., several hours after the accident occurred, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

The accident happened at 5:15 a.m. on U.S. 701 near Conway, according to Lance Cpl. William Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Ellerbe was driving a 2003 Subaru Sedan when she crossed the center line, struck a ditch and overturned, Bennett said. Ellerbe was not wearing a seatbelt.

Two other passengers also were transported to the hospital.

This is the second fatal accident that occurred Sunday morning.

India Chestnut, 19, of Sunset Beach, North Carolina, was killed about 6:30 a.m. Sunday in Little River when the vehicle she was driving ran off the road and struck a tree.
