Balcony collapses Sunday at Myrtle Beach building. Two were injured and others stranded
Two people were injured in a balcony collapse early Sunday morning and others had to be rescued by the Myrtle Beach Fire Department.
The balcony was part of a building at 307 14th Ave. S.
When fire rescuers arrived about 1 a.m. July 16, two people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Fire Capt. Jon Evans. Other people had to be rescued from the second floor using fire ladders, he said.
The incident is under investigation. Evans said that the city’s fire marshal and building inspector were on the scene Monday morning to look at the building.
A sign placed on the building by the city says that the “structure is unsafe for human habitation.”
The building appears to have four apartments - two on the second floor and two on the bottom. A set of stairs that leads to the balcony is the only way to access the top apartments.
It is unclear who owns the building or property.
