It’s going to be hot this weekend, y’all! Here’s what the Myrtle Beach area can expect
Myrtle Beach area residents and visitors should plan for it to be hot this weekend as the heat index is expected to be over 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s this weekend, with the hottest day on Sunday. While it will be fairly typical summertime weather for the area, it will seem hotter as the heat index could be between 100 to 104 degrees. There also will be scattered showers and thunderstorms later Friday and throughout the weekend.
The weather is similar to the heat wave the Myrtle Beach area experienced over the July 4th weekend, when the heat index also climbed to above 100 degrees.
Horry County Emergency Management is urging people to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activity outdoors during this time. People are also encouraged to know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion to avoid heat stroke.
In addition, there will be a rip current risk increasing through the weekend for south-facing beaches along Horry and Brunswick counties, the National Weather Service’s Wilmington Office reported.
